Female characters now lead their own games and the time has passed where they rely upon muscular white knights to save them. They are hot but they’re not just good to look at – they can also hold on their own. When placed in a dangerous situation, which ones are the most likely to survive with their wicked intellect and supreme combat skills?

Listed below are the top ten video game chicks that can kick ass.

10. Elaine Marley-Threepwood (Monkey Island)

Elaine is the pirate governor of an island and the wife of Monkey Island protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood. She constantly gets kidnapped by the evil pirate LeChuck but has enough wit and intellect to escape his clutches. Along with her skill in piracy, she’s resourceful, strategic, and is the force her clueless husband needs when faced with seemingly impossible situations.

9. Bayonetta (Bayonetta)

She’s an Umbra Witch who shape-shifts and uses magical attacks with her hair. Bayonetta is also skilled in the art of weaponry and uses four guns at any one time – and she’s not afraid to use them to fight angels in her path. If this isn’t kick ass, I don’t know what is.

8. Zoey (Left 4 Dead)

The original and the best heroine in the Left 4 Dead series, Zoey is a movie buff who got caught in the zombie apocalypse. She’s the bond that ties the survivors together, and she’s kick ass at beating down the zombies. You don’t want to get on her bad side though as she gets a little snappy when things go wrong.

7. Alyx Vance (Half Life)

The key heroine of the Half Life series, Alyx is a skilled hacker that helps the iconic Gordon Freeman throughout his mission. She’s proficient in firearms and unarmed combat, and can jump down obstacles and climb up buildings without a sweat.

6. Sarah Kerrigan (Starcraft)

Sarah Kerrigan is a major character in Starcraft 1 & 2. As a human, Sarah was a skilled Ghost assassin with psychic abilities. With a twist of fate, she got infected by the Zerg and she is now their most powerful warrior as the Queen of Blades. No one can get close to her, and she’s responsible for millions of deaths.

5. Faith (Mirrors Edge)

Faith is not your typical gun wielder; in fact she is probably the most nimble and athletic heroine of all time. Her occupation as a runner means she is an expert in navigating the rooftops of buildings at full speed. She can wall jump, jump across buildings, run horizontally, and even jump between moving trains. She’s tough and independent and not afraid to clash with danger.

4. Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)

One of the original Resident Evil characters, Jill Valentine was a member of the STARS Special Forces alongside Chris Redfield. She’s a ‘master of unlocking’ and doesn’t let anything get in her way, which is a key factor of surviving the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. Jill has been portrayed in the Resident Evil movies and returns in several other games in the series including Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil 5.

3. Samus Aran (Metroid)

The character that never speaks was revealed as a female at the end of the original Metroid game. Gamers did not receive any clues to show that this tough, silent, heavily armed warrior who fights for truth and justice was in fact a female. Samus is a bounty hunter who wears a powered suit that allows her to transform into a ball to navigate tunnels and other small areas. She’s a warrior that doesn’t rely on anyone else and prefers to fight alone.
