- Fan site claims that DICE are working on Battlefield 2143
- Easter egg found in Back To Karkand DLC
- EA representative states "there is no news on this front"
The internet runs on rumours, speculation and the souls of orphan children, so to report that we have yet another rumour about the Battlefield franchise at this point may seem like same old, same old. However this particular rumour is pointing out that DICE are planning to make Battlefield 2143, a direct sequel to the sci-fi spin-off Battlefield 2142 which was released in 2006.
This rumour stems from fan site, Battlefield 3 Blog. They spotted a graffiti tag in the recently released Back To Karkand map pack that simply states 2143. The blog argues that DICE have been known to hide easter eggs in previous Battlefield games, with a similar tag hidden in a Battlefield 2 expansion that pointed towards Battlefield 2142 months before an announcement was made.
DICE also released Battleifeld 1943, a downloadable sequel to Battlefield 1942 which set download records for Xbox Live Arcade. Several sites are claiming that if Battlefiled 2143 isn't a full-blown sequel, perhaps it will be a downloadable title of the same vain.
What does the team behind the series have to say about this?
We love our fans attention to detail and hunger for more Battlefield but there is no news on this front." - EA Representative
It may seem a little far fetched, but if DICE are truly tyring to differentiate themselves from the ever successful Call of Duty franchise, then a futuristic return could be what the doctor ordered.
