E3 2009: Miyamoto confirms new Wii Zelda

Featured 47 Comments 70 Votes 3547 Views 03/06/2009 Back to News The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Speaking at Nintendo's roundtable discussion Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that a new Wii Zelda title is in development.

"To be honest with you, I really wanted to announce a Zelda game for Wii at this E3. But rather than think about something to bring you to show you, we really wanted to focus on actual game development," he said. "However I didn't want to come empty handed, so I did bring the next illustration for the next Zelda title."

Miyamoto then showed an oil painting image of Link on the screen behind him. A pale blue figure wearing a helmet in the foreground and the Legend of Zelda logo at the bottom is all the media was treated to. Unfortunately no photography was allowed at the behind closed doors event.

"This illustration does contain elements that are central to the storyline, and I hope it does prove to you we are quite far into the development of the title," Miyamoto said. "I would like to say we hope to bring it to you next year. It may take a little longer."

Miyamoto revealed that it was likely to be compatible with Wii MotionPlus, but did not confirm it. That might give you an idea of how far along development is. Maybe we won't see it next year after all.

E3 2009: Miyamoto confirms new Wii Zelda Comments

Sounds promising, it'll be interesting to see how things develop.
lol. It's good to know they are well into it.
If this was mentioned at Nintendo's conference, then it would've been much better.
I really want to see the image they showed. I wonder if anyone secretly took a photo with something...

=D
They might have a photo of it from another time, but I doubt they will put in on the web
awes
Nintendo will probably send it out in a press release eventually, they want it to get some hype.
*dies*
Where is this picture???

I like the fact that he showed a drawing and said, "I hope it does prove to you we are quite far into the development of the title."

It's a drawing...
i think its better if they take there time and make it AWSOME than just trying to rush it. hope they make it with MotionPlus, wouldnt even mind waiting another year if they do that.

lol I stopped reading at "However I didn't want to come empty handed, so I did bring the next illustration for the next Zelda title."
ive got epic expectations for the next zelda game. Combined with wii motion plus, you could control links sword in 1:1 motion! And the archery like it was shown on the wii sports resort demo!!
i dont know if thats the direction they will take, but itd be sweet if they did
Lemme guess.
It's not a cell-shaded Zelda?
Damn.

Lol i reckon... Or he's just a noob at reading
AWESOME!!! Although I do want spirit tracks as well. Phantom hourglass was good but this is probably going to be even better same story with twilight princess and the new one.
So he says they are far into development, but they won't probably show it till next year's E3!? THATS AGES AWAY!!!
I can't wait that long
I just hope we see something different from this game. don't get me wrong Zelda games are fun but the basis of nearly every Zelda game is the same. Same Zelda, same link, same Hyrule, same Ganon, same shield, sword, bow, boomerang, and when ever your in a dungeon it's go around the level until you defeat the midboss then you get an item, then use that item to get around the rest of the level, until u fight the main boss which will give u the item u need to get to the next dungeon. So on and so on until you fight Ganon.

How many times in twilight princess did you fight a boss when their weakness was their eye/eyes
I believe NIntendo really delivered at E3 this year, well done!
WANT!

Though I was hoping it would have been in development much, much earlier than this. Just means we have to wait and be teased longer.

its been in development for two years
Yes, he didn't confirm anything. This is old news.

As for the picture, here's a low quality shot. There isn't an original quality version hasn't been leaked yet.

Wait... do I spy a shield in Link's RIGHT arm? Link's going to be left-handed again! But how would this work on Wii?

Yeah i agree. they need something fresh and new. I hate it how you get an item that can only really be used in a few places in the game.

1. Diababa
2. Morpheel
3. Armogohma
You can include Beamos too, but those aren't bosses.
omg! can't wait for this! if they had something to show for this at E3 they definitely would have blown away the competition.

Win.
I still don't have a clue as too what the blue figure is, it doesn't look a thing like a Zora to me, but I can't say it's automatically Zelda just because she has worn a robe before.
What's that on his back? Looks something related to a Zora.
Artwork released:

There is speculation that the blue girl is the Master Sword.
looks bull**** already. anything with zelda is gold
So we have to wait until 2011 for this? Wow, I'm sure it's worth it

This looks like it will be like majoras mask.
i think you willbe able to turn into a zora

ZELDA!!!
ZELDA!!!
ZELDA!!!

looks friggin awesome!!
hope it comes out next year. this zelda is going to have new devolopers and some old ones as well. every zelda game was very successful so theres no doubt that this one is going to be AWESOME! and with motion + (maybe) it would be even better.

its obvious in that picture that the girl is the master sword cos link doesnt have his sword ou.miyamoto even said theres a clue in an interview.

Luv all the Zelda games & I', hanggingf for the new one, please hurry
