The legendary creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, doesn't look back at his first creations as lovingly and with as many fond memories as us gamers do.
Miyamoto says looking at pictures of Super Mario Bros. on a big screen TV is "a little embarrassing".
"When I see this so clearly, it's a little embarrassing.
"Back then, with tube televisions, it was a little blurrier and the images weren't quite so sharp. The places where we tried to fudge it a bit really stand out!"
Shigesato Itoi, a Japanese game designer, asked Miyamoto if the low-detail mountains in the background are what embarrass him.
"No, the lines represent the best we could achieve with the technology at the time, so that's not so embarrassing.
"I think that if I were making that game today, I would fix it, but in a way those rough places are a part of the game and even well-received."
If it ain't broke, Shigeru, don't fix it.
