Wii U 'effectively a 360', says Microsoft

Microsoft thinks Nintendo's new video game console, Wii U, is no more powerful than currently-available hardware, including its own Xbox 360.

Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, praised Wii U’s Pro Controller, which was made specifically for “core gamers”, according to Nintendo, but compared the console’s graphical prowess to current-generation hardware

"I think their Pro Controller makes a lot of sense with the platform they've built. They are building a platform that is effectively a 360 when you think of graphical capability," said Mr Spencer.

Because of the console’s capabilities, Mr Spencer believes Wii U will see a lot of third-party support and ports of Xbox 360 games, particularly because of the 360-like Pro Controller.

They've moved the buttons around, and they've made a controller that feels familiar for 360 gamers, so I get why they are putting those pieces together," he said.

Well, I think he meant that the controller is very similar, in terms of button layout.

He was generally pretty praising :P
who cares about what this moron says. Heaps of people will still buy this console because they offer great family friendly games and are aimed at everyone.

i'd rather get one of these than any Xbox or playstation console because it just has that appeal unlike the Xbox 360.
Wii U 'effectively a 360'.... BUT WITH MORE GAMES!

First party Nintendo games NOT on a non-Nintendo console? The humanity!

If you read the full article you'll release he's giving a lot of praise to Nintendo and their design efforts with the Wii U and is thoroughly impressed with how they had tailored it to work for both gaming markets by bringing in a controller that meets the orthodox button layout and a console that contains the power to run the library of titles that were typically only available between the 360 and PS3 camps.

The first sentence in this mmgn article takes a fair bit of writers assumption context and, in my opinion, flexes the intended meaning of what Spencer was getting at.
Ouch, I guess Nintendo fanboys have an ugly side too...
