Don't trade in your Wii if you want to transfer data to Wii U

It's only a matter of time before EB Games opens up a Wii trade in deal for the Wii U -- although without games it'll be worth about $17 -- but don't rush into it if you want to keep your data and digital games.

GameStop in the US is already offering a trade-in deal, but warn customers not to rush in if they want to keep their data.

"Wii U owners can wirelessly transfer content such as Miis, and WiiWare and Virtual Console games to their Wii U systems. Both systems will need to be connected to the Internet and the Wii U will need an SD card to facilitate the transfer," says GameStop.

We suspect it's a very similar process to the 3DS to 3DS XL system transfer.

Prefer to use my Gamecube through RGB. I'll be boxing mine up i think.
This is good for those who have bought so much off VC. Glad Nintendo gave the option.
Whats the point of trading your wii in at all? You're going to get like $20 for it anyway.
I have so many games on my old Wii that won't read disks. :') Now I can easily play them again.
might want to re read that quote ben

Beat me to it.

You'd probably get more for your Gamecube at this stage.
This is actually pretty cool and I'm glad they included this option.
So do my VC games have to be currently-installed in order to transfer them, or can I just transfer the authorization and download them off the Wii U's store?

I'd assume currently installed, but that's just an assumption.
Not worth trading anyway. You get nothing for the wii
I thought about it and since I'm giving my daughter the wii I might just keep my VC on it. Ill slowly buy the games for it on my wiiU.. I'm assuming once you do the transfer they won't be on the wii anymore
I'm glad they made the content transferable but I wasn't planning on trading in my Wii anyway. I never sell off hardware I just retire them to the retro room.
I havent bought much of the VC
