Nintendo Confirms Wii U Box Art

Nintendo issued an official statement regarding the box art images that were leaked on several retailer websites in the past few days.

“Nintendo has finalised the design of the Wii U game box art, and many of our publishing partners have already incorporated it into their own game packaging. We are seeing those game packages online as retailers are starting to showcase their games. For details about a specific game’s artwork, please contact the game’s publisher. Nintendo-published game boxes will appear shortly with placeholder logos, and then ultimately with the final artwork for each game,” said a Nintendo representative.

The new box art design, which features a light blue, GameCube-esque curve with the Wii U logo inside of it, first appeared on Amazon and Target’s websites, on select Ubisoft and Warner Bros. titles.

You're right. Why couldn't they make them CD case size? Something different, less packaging just smaller.

People would be confused between Wii U games and 3DS/DS games most likely.
The semi circle at the top with the console brand is a throwback to GameCube days.
I'm gonna buy the Wii U one day... The Box Art looks AWESOME!
So is the plastic of the box blue? That's interesting.
I think its a good move to make the box a light blue as well if that's the case.

The throwback to the gamecube is a nice touch for a console that didn't get too much love.

here's an image with the yellow taken out

Personally, I'm fine with the yellow strip unlike others who have complained about it.

Oh.. Wow, you're right! Maybe they're trying to attract GameCube fans to the Wii U?
