Super Smash Bros. 4 has classic controls, limited non-Nintendo characters

The next Super Smash Bros. won't have complicated controls for the sake of it, according to Masahiro Sakurai.

"The game system itself is complete, so we don’t want to make it 3D or introduce complicated controls just for the sake of it," Sakurai told IGN. "However, I am thinking of ways we can introduce a slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play."

Like Brawl, it will offer multiple control schemes.

"The GameCube controller is not the only way to control Smash Bros., so we will look into ways that fits the Wii U."

He also wants to narrow down the focus on non-Nintendo characters and not include them for the sake of it.

"I think Snake and Sonic joining [Brawl] were fantastic. It made many fans happy, and it broadened the Smash Bros arena," he said. "However, introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game, so I also recognise the need to narrow it down."

Pfft, just a Battle Royale ripoff...

[MOG]

Please don't "narrow it down". The more characters, the better, as long as it is balanced, and third-party characters don't overpower first-party characters.

Although I played all of like 5 hours of SSBB so I am probably not in a position to critique the series.
I read it as him minimising the number of non-Ninty characters as much as possible, which I can fully get behind.

That's what he said.

Although, has previously stated that there won't be many more than the 36 Brawl characters.
I think he makes a valid point by not just throwing in any character into the fray.
I'd love more diversity between playable characters. I don't mind if they're Nintendo or not, just make plenty of characters playable!

lol.

Honestly I know brawl is playable with other control's but it is just so much easier to use the gcc when you play it competitively, one particular notice I felt was short hoping, so much easier :)
The Cube controller shall be missed, now I have to get used to control scheme all over again :'@
Hmm, the only issue with this is that the new Smash Bros will most probably be a competitive tournament game so they would have to have something just as good as the gamecube controller.
Anything battery powered that you have to sync (like the wiimote) isn’t really viable for tournaments for obvious reasons…
i like using the Wavebird moreso. I've been trying to use the Classic Controller Pro as of late. But it's still a bit weird because of where the buttons are on it. I like to use X for grab but on the classic it doesn't feel right there.
